2011 California Capital Airshow Exhilarates and Thrills Fans with Explosive Excitement and Inspiring Tributes

Airshow to celebrate and honor 100 years of Naval Aviation

 and showcase meaningful performances and tributes

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – (August 25, 2011) – The California Capital Airshow, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the importance of aviation for continued economic growth, inspiration and educational opportunities for today’s youth, and enhancing awareness for the service and sacrifice of our military men and women, today announced the current Airshow highlights, which will exhilarate, thrill and inspire fans of all ages.  The Airshow, located at Mather Airport, thunders into Sacramento on September 10-11, and will honor several important anniversaries. 2011 marks 100 years of Naval Aviation, an achievement the CCA will celebrate by featuring a fighter jet demonstration by the US Navy F-18 Super Hornet as well as a Legacy Flight starring the Grumman F6F Hellcat. 

“Each year we strive to bring new and exciting performers, unique aircraft, and interactive displays to Sacramento, and this year will be an event that you will never forget!” said Darcy Brewer, executive director of the California Capital Airshow. “Tora!Tora!Tora! is making its first trip ever to Northern California and fans will not be disappointed.  Tora is a choreographed, living history lesson with pyrotechnics and precision flying all set to music, but the show certainly doesn’t stop there.  We will have something for everyone and every age – from exhilarating military jet demonstrations and aerobatics soaring overhead to a Kids Zone with interactive, educational exhibits – it’s going to be an incredible show that will leave you begging for more.”

Airshow fans will also experience the raw power and extreme capabilities of the F-15E Strike Eagle Demonstration Team, the electrifying Patriots Jet Team, aerobatic champion, Patty Wagstaff, and a USAF Heritage Flight.  Rounding out the line-up will be the Shockwave Jet Truck, Otto the Helicopter, Dan Buchanan, local air show pilot, Tim Decker, more fighter jets, warbirds, vintage aircraft, and some of the largest transport jets on Earth.

Additionally, the 2011 show will pay homage to the tenth anniversary of 9/11 as well as hosting Pearl Harbor honorees and their families from across the western United States as a tribute to the 70^th anniversary of December 7, 1941.

CCA Announces Upgraded Ticket Option

Join us this year at the Flight Line Club, where Airshow fans will have prime viewing near Show Center, large tent for shade, open air seating, hosted water, iced tea, lemonade, lunch and so much more! Not available for purchase at the gate – available only online at the California Capital Airshow website or at your local Costco.  Tickets are $65.00 per person and available for limited time only.

General Admission tickets to the 2010 California Capital Airshow at Mather Airport are now available online and can be easily purchased at the Airshow web site or at all SAFE Credit Union locations throughout the region.

Aerial Comedy, Dance Performances & World’s Top Pilots For Al Ain Aerobatic Show

Al Ain, UAE. January 26, 2010: Spectacular solo acts, gravity-defying stuntmen and a helicopter with a penchant for comedy are to take this year’s Al Ain Aerobatic Show, running Feb 2 – 5 at Al Ain International Airport, to new heights.

The latest line up joins a cast of stellar display teams that includes the Turkish air force’s aerobatic team - the Turkish Stars – as well as the Baltic Bees and Team Viper, the world’s only Hawker Hunter fighter jet display team.

“This year’s show will present the very best of every aerobatic discipline and provide spectators with an exhilarating, action-packed programme,” said Faisal Al Sheikh, Events Manager, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), which organises the show in conjunction with the UAE Armed Forces. “This great value event offers a full experience into the world of aerobatics combined with a family fun day out for everyone from the UAE and beyond.”

In an Al Ain Aerobatic Show first, the Fournier RF4D and RF5 motorgliders of pilots Fabio Iannaccone and Ivan Prizzon, known as Blue Voltige, will perform a unique aerial ‘ballet’. The two propeller aircraft from the 1960s, with their sleek lines and aerodynamics, will glide effortlessly through the air in a routine set to music that will be both passionate and thrilling.

Adding comedy value this year is one of the world’s most distinctive air show acts. Performing under the stage name ‘OTTO the Helicopter’, the clown-faced Hughes TH-55 Osageone helicopter will showcase a full set of antics, from blowing bubbles to playing with a giant yo-yo and racing around barrels. OTTO is piloted by Roger Buis, a nominee for the US Army Aviator of the Year in Helicopters, with over 16,500 total flight hours.

In addition, Miss Demeanour, a vintage 1956 Hawker Hunter jet whose stunning ‘atmospheric re-entry’ paint scheme and eye-catching stunts have captivated crowds worldwide, will be showing off her colours to the 130,000 expected visitors. No less of a legend than his aircraft, Miss Demeanour’s owner, Jonathan Whaley, started his flying career at only 17 and can spotted by film buffs in adventure-lovers’ all-time favourite films - ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’ and ‘The Mummy.’

Also joining the exclusive line-up will be the unusually-named Scandinavian Airshow, which will dazzle the public with a three-act show of its own. This will include the Skycats’ famous wing-walking extravaganza, and Jacob Holländer’s spine-tingling Pitts Python and Wasp routines.

Flying the world’s most powerful piston biplane, the Pitts Python, Jacob Holländer will put this unique aircraft into its natural element with a head-spinning show of tumbles and tail slides, before hopping into the Wasp’s pilot seat to delight crowds once again with an exhilarating set of aerial stunts.

Fully whiskered, suited and booted parachutist Hella Stenning and skydivers Emma Alexson and Lisa Henriksson will have spectators peering through their fingers at the Skycats trio’s daring antics, wing-walking across a Grumman-164A‘Catwalk’ and striking different poses to rock music, while pilot Sus Jan Hedén performs loops and barrel rolls amid  swirling white smoke.

And if that’s not enough, more than 20 aircraft will take to the skies in the daily flying display, while the unique, multi-discipline FAI Desert Challenge, arranged by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), the international governing body for air sports, will see six of the world’s best pilots flying in classic and free-style competing to be the Desert’s first free-style aerobatic champion.

Complementing the aerial displays will be spectacular on-ground activities for the whole family, including meet-the-pilot sessions, tethered hot air balloon rides, go-karting, bungee trampolines and crazy golf, as well as face-painting and appearances by children’s favourite magazine character Majid, the Al Ain Aerobatic Show’s own Friendly Pilot Bear mascot and a stilt-walking pilot.

“This really is those magnificent men and women in their flying machines,” said Al Sheikh. “In broadening the range of attractions, both in the air and on the ground, we have ensured that there is something for every visitor who will be enthralled, encapsulated and fully entertained. And with Al Ain International Airport being approximately just 80 minutes drive from Abu Dhabi and Dubai, it makes for an easy-to-reach day out for residents throughout the UAE and nearby Oman.”

The 2011 Al Ain Aerobatic Show is held under the patronage of HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Daily show tickets are just Dh40 per adult and Dh20 for children between three and 10 years old, while children under three enter free.
